This session is designed to empower participants and increase their confidence and intentionality to facilitate developmentally appropriate discussions in response to those “big” queries. Dr. Teck explains contemporary developmental theories that equip participants to understand and appreciate how children’s social, emotional, verbal and cognitive abilities will inform their expressions and questions.
Dr. Teck will show participants how to implement practical tactics and strategies that support early learners needs. This highly interactive session concludes with a guided discussion on participant’s prior experiences in light of the information presented.
This workshop requires no musical talent or skill (though if you think you don’t have that, you might be misinformed, and we’ll discover why)! Participants will experience ways to engage in joyful Jewish learning through musical play and emerge to utilize those same strategies in their own teaching environment. Methods modeled incorporate art, writing, movement, technology, and more with music. Participants will learn how music can be used throughout the curriculum; increase song repertoire and knowledge of learning theories that support the effectiveness of musical play as a learning platform. The strategies presented will support different learning styles and personal preferences so that educators can encourage and invite students to engage in many ways.

The ritual celebration of Shabbat can do exactly this- and finding the most meaningful, do-able, and joyful ways to do that with your family has enormous benefits- immediate and long term- for every participating member. Elevate the joy and Judaism in your home and community with the babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers you love by amping up your Shabbat celebration. A ‘case-study’ of one family’s journey will be presented and participants will emerge with relevant resource connections and the outline of a plan to help guide their journey to increasing joy in their Shabbat sharing.
This session is for people who plan and present any kind of program for families with young children. Participants will explore best practices and principles that should inform efforts related to: marketing, the host environment, food, assessment, and follow-up. Participants will be guided in a standing-on-one-foot process to help them define, describe and prepare to improve a program or initiative in place or in a planning stage.
This session will explore the crucial but sometimes neglected adult education element of services for families with young children. Participants will explore how and why they should integrate parent education and engagement into programs designed for young children. We will review literature and research that will help participants understand the developmental stages of adults who are at the beginning of their journey navigating parenthood as well as typical preferences and concerns of parents who attend “Tot Shabbat” programs. Examples of successful and not-so-successful attempts to engage and educate adults will be shared to provide participants with insight that can inform their efforts.
In this workshop, the “why” and “how” of running parent-child music sessions as a strategic tool for Jewish community building will be explored. Participants will have the opportunity to play and pretend as songs and manipulatives are shared to model what session might look and feel like. Participants will emerge equipped with several specific songs and strategies that they could implement as well as familiarity with resources that can inform the expansion of the experiences they can offer.
This experiential workshop will model songs and strategies to engage young children with every day morning (Shacharit) prayers and themes inspired by that liturgy. We will focus on ideas in the prayers that can be, and already are, implemented in early childhood classrooms; be thankful, thoughtful, loving, use your words and ask for help. This set of prayer experiences will expose young children to the concepts and ideas that are foundational to an understanding of a many prayers. A planned, guided set of experiences organized around listening, singing, moving, breathing and learning with the following songs that will transmit knowledge of these themes to the student. Participants will be asked to discover their inner child as we pray, sing, dance, move and learn together. The focus of the workshop will be giving participants with the skills to implement these musical, prayerful experiences with children.
